Google analytics : A helpful tool for webmasters

When it comes for getting website traffic details you have many options one of them is AWstats which is very popular and widely used due to its easy to use feature and detailed report. Major disadvantage of AWstats is that its only available with cpanel. You have another option like Google Analytics which is getting popularity and is also a great tool.  As it’s a service from Google you can trust it;)

Features of Google Analytics :

1. Information about Internal Search stats – This is a very useful feature as you will know which page was the visitor viewing and what did the visitor enter in the Search box and which was the link the visitor clicked from the results.

2. Filter your companies traffic – This feature should be the best for you if you have a company. You can setup a filter as you are well aware of your specific company IP address and then Google analytics will not include traffic from your own company which is a good benefit as the Traffic report does not include traffic from the network of your company.

3. Track document downloads or specific links – This feature can benefit you if you want to keep a track of traffic for a single link. You will only have to add a small piece of Java Script to the link and Google will keep a track of the visitors who click on the link. This feature will work for PDFs, Word documents, email address’ and external links. It will also be possible for you to keep a track for 2 links on the same page and you can simply tag 1st link as Link one and the 2nd link as second link and Google will track both the links separately for you.

Additional benefit – You can tag all links within your website if you have a Wordpress blog with the help of Google Analytics plugin.
